Recipe and Cooking App Development for the German Food Website

The Client

Chefkoch.de is a popular German cooking portal, the daughter company of Europeans largest printing and publishing firm Gruner + Jahr. Being the leading cooking platform in Germany, Chefkoch.de provides cooking fans with a huge variety of opportunities including diverse recipes, informative articles, and a community for discussing all the topics surrounding cuisine.

The Scope

To create a brand new iPhone and iPad app for the cooking portal, so that its customers learn how to cook different dishes via video courses and professional lectures. Azoft was subcontracted to develop a mobile app with minimal features and a video course “How to bake bread”.

The Solution

For this project, we developed an iOS recipe and cooking app as a virtual cooking school, where users can master their skills through video courses and recipes available in the application under different types of subscriptions.

The developed system includes a server-side targeted for administering video streams and lesson management.

The app is available in AppStore.

The Challenge

Since the customer had only a very high-level idea of the required app at the beginning, Scrum methodology was chosen for the project. The process and communication were well established so the Scrum approach worked very efficiently on this project even though the team was geographically distributed.

Although the customer required being flexible in the development process, the project had a very strict deadline and a budget limit. Close communication with the customer during the whole project and careful sprint planning allowed us to release an MVP that fully satisfied the customer and made the project fit into their time and budget frames.

The Outcome

The client company got the app featured on the App Store. MVP version of Chefkoch Academy was developed and released within a strictly defined deadline. The customer enjoyed the received outcome and continues further development by adding new features and courses.
